experience
A California native, Spurlin played as an opposite hitter at George Mason University, one of the most storied men's volleyball programs in NCAA history- a program that has made NCAA Tournament appearances and produced multiple All-Americans. His playing days extended well beyond college, as he went on to represent his country on the court in uniform. As a member of the U.S. Air Force, Spurlin led the Air Force team to a gold medal at the Armed Forces Men's Volleyball Championship, was named to the All-Armed Forces Team, and competed internationally on three occasions at the CISM Military World Games- the military equivalent of the Olympics- in Romania, Italy, and Brazil.
Off the court, Spurlin served as a Combat Control Instructor and Joint Terminal Air Controller during Operation Enduring Freedom, deploying on over 50 combat missions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service- recognized for his composure, precision, and leadership under the most demanding conditions imaginable.
Coach Spurlin knows what it means to compete at the highest level, to push through adversity, and to hold yourself to a standard most people never reach. We are proud to have him bring that mentality to SC Elite.
