Chris Latigona brings more than 20 years of leadership, mentoring, and coaching experience to the volleyball court and SC Elite. Originally from Virginia, he was a standout multi-sport athlete in high school, earning Volleyball Player of the Year honors after competing at the national club level. Following graduation, Chris chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy instead of pursuing collegiate volleyball.
During a distinguished 20-year military career, Chris served in the Navy's Nuclear Power Program, retiring as a Nuclear Machinist's Mate Master Chief. Throughout his service, he led complex operational and maintenance programs while mentoring and developing sailors at every stage of their careers. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology and a Master of Science in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.
Chris currently serves as the Head Coach of the Cane Bay High School girls volleyball program, where he has led his teams through some of the most successful seasons in school history. Under his leadership, Cane Bay achieved its first winning season, first playoff victories, and highest win total. In 2025, he became the first volleyball coach in school history to earn Region Coach of the Year honors, helping establish the program as a respected competitor in one of South Carolina's toughest classifications.
At the club level, Chris has led teams to multiple tournament championships, consecutive successful seasons, and a third-place finish at the 2026 Big South National Qualifier.
Committed to lifelong learning, Chris has completed coaching certifications through Art of Coaching Volleyball and Gold Medal Squared and continually seeks new ways to develop both his coaching and his athletes.
Chris believes volleyball is a powerful vehicle for teaching life skills. His coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. While he is passionate about competing and winning, his greatest goal is helping athletes become confident, disciplined young adults who are prepared for success both on and off the court.
