A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Shelly played collegiately at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she was a four-year starter as a defensive specialist and right-side hitter. Her competitive experience at the NCAA Division I level laid the foundation for a successful teaching and coaching career.
Shelly has spent the past 17 years teaching physical education, health, and strength and conditioning, and has coached volleyball for the last 10 years across both middle and high school levels. She is currently entering her fourth season as the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Palmetto Christian Academy in Mount Pleasant, where she has also served as a middle school volleyball coach and upper school chapel leader. Prior to PCA, she coached varsity volleyball in North Carolina and Miami, Florida.
In addition to her volleyball work, Shelly is passionate about education, character-building, and creating joyful, high-effort team cultures. Her coaching style emphasizes hard work, positivity, and teamwork — all with a focus on building lasting memories on and off the court.
Shelly and her husband Jimmy have two children: Bailey, a senior at Flagler College, and Tyson, a freshman at the University of South Carolina. The family lives in Mount Pleasant with their dog, Cali. Outside of coaching and teaching, Shelly enjoys playing volleyball and surfing.
Shelly is excited to continue investing in the SC Elite athletes and guiding them through the next phase of their development — both as players and as people.
